Decorating Table tops Creatively

When it comes to decorating a consul table, coffee, lamp, bedside table, or any other horizontal surface, there are many important tips and guidelines that will help you to a successful result.

Grouping

- Group things together where possible. Grouping is better than spreading things out over the entire surface.

- Group items into pyramid shapes. ie larger at back like a lamp. Medium in front of that and smaller to the side.

Allow space

- Don't overcrowd with too many items. Usually 3-4 items will be adequate.

- Not every space needs to be filled.

Props

- Use props like interesting books stacked vertyically and/or horizontally to create interest or give a special item like a photoframe a lift to feature it better.

- Adding tassles or other interintesting pieces can help give a layered effect as well as varying the textures.

Make it yours

In the end, it is your space so experiment a bit and whilst it will need to reflect your personality and taste. Add personal favourites, just not too many and when adding them choose items that add purpose and meaning in some way to that personal treasure.

I hope you enjoy the process, but if you are struggling just drop me a line at marinkadesign@bigpond.com or call me on 0425 944529
